- A2: Although they are not stainless, their alloys with very high vanadium content are very difficult to process in terms of heat treatment.
- A2, on the other hand, is much more suitable for longer knives and swords with its high impact resistance. Although they are the easiest to harden because they are both air-hardening steels, they require much more modern heat treatment equipment than other steels, as they have to be austenite for a long time, such as 35-45 minutes at the same temperature (1000 – 1050 C).
- In addition, the hardening (martensitic transformation) endpoint is below -70°C, so subzero treatment (reduction of residual austenite) is required, especially if the impact strength is to be fully revealed. This makes the task even more difficult, because finding cryogenic equipment are difficult and expensive.
- A2 bolts are stainless steel: Also called standard stainless steel
- It is typically composed of 8 to 13% nickel and 17 to 20% chromium.
- Come in different metric classes. Bolt type and metric class are usually marked on the top of the bolt head, for example “A2-70”. This class divides the tensile strength of the bolt by 10. For example, a bolt marked “A2-70” is a 304 stainless steel bolt with a tensile strength of 700 N/mm2. The most used metric class for A2 is A2-70.
- Used for buildings, bathrooms, kitchens, food processing equipment, hospital equipment, garden tools, dairy equipment, brewing equipment, motor vehicles, bulk milk coolers and refrigeration equipment, among other uses.
